Ultimate Winter Skincare Guide: How to Keep Your Skin Healthy in Cold Weather with Our Vegan Products

Winter can be harsh on your skin, leading to dryness, flakiness, and irritation. Cold temperatures, low humidity, and indoor heating strip your skin of moisture, making it essential to adjust your skincare routine. Here’s your ultimate guide to protecting your skin during the winter months.

1. Hydrate from the Inside Out

Drinking plenty of water is crucial for maintaining skin hydration. Herbal teas and water-rich foods like cucumbers and oranges can also help keep your skin supple.

2. Switch to a Gentle Cleanser

Harsh cleansers can further dry out your skin. Opt for a hydrating, sulfate-free cleanser that removes dirt without stripping natural oils.

Our soap bars are made with organic olive and coconut oil with 10% moisture in the bar after curing. With no synthetic detergents, our bars are made the real old-fashioned way. Oil, water, and lye make real soap.

 3. Exfoliate Wisely

Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, allowing better absorption of moisturizers. However, over-exfoliating can cause irritation. Use a gentle exfoliant 1-2 times a week.

Rather than harsh scrubs, try our sugar whipped soap or sisal soap bag scrubbers.

 4. Moisturize Immediately After Cleansing

Applying moisturizer on damp skin locks in hydration. Our body lotion is unscented, made with plant oils and free of silicones and other fillers.

5. Use a Thicker Moisturizer

Swap lightweight lotions for rich creams or ointments to provide deeper hydration and protection against harsh weather.

Rad Balm is a solid lotion bar made from cocoa butter with soothing essential oils. We also make avocado oil body butter, which feels like your skin’s own oils and is never greasy or heavy feeling.

6. Don’t Skip Sunscreen

UV rays are still present in winter and can cause premature aging. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days.

7. Protect Your Lips and Hands

Chapped lips and cracked hands are common in winter. Use a nourishing lip balm and apply a thick hand cream regularly, especially after washing your hands. Carry Rad Balm in a tin, or use the refill station to make a travel sized body butter for your bag.

 8. Invest in a Humidifier

Indoor heating can dry out the air, leading to moisture loss in your skin. A humidifier helps maintain optimal humidity levels, preventing dryness. I use a sonic humidifier, not a steam humidifier. Steam humidifiers grow mold and bacteria which can trigger allergies.

 9. Wear Protective Clothing

Cover exposed skin with scarves, gloves, and hats to shield it from cold winds and prevent windburn.

10. Adjust Your Diet for Skin Health

Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (like flax oil and walnuts) and antioxidants (like berries and spinach) promote healthy, glowing skin from within.
