Walk on Wilshire City Council Meeting 10/15/24

Walk on Wilshire City Council Meeting 10/15/24

Greetings friends!

Last night was a roller coaster.

TL;DR we kind of won FOR NOW.

The outcome as I understand it:

Walk on Wilshire will not reopen to cars in the next 90 days while the city executes a study on:

1. Reopening the street to cars, expenses, and protocols.

2. Increasing the length of pedestrianized space permanently to Malden including state laws. Those will be presented at the mid-January council meeting and another vote will be held.

Now, I'd like to thank everyone who signed the petition, attended the meeting in person and watched online, spoke, held signs inside and outside, and generally encouraged our group of volunteers in this matter.

As a former professor of rhetoric (persuasion and argumentation) I would grade our side's presentations an A+. I was dismayed that the opponents seemingly ignored our strong points and relied on logical fallacies. Hopefully that was apparent to the council.

Please stay in touch with the grassroots group I joined and with our community:

  • Sign the petition and add your contact information to be notified about future meetings, volunteering, and more: tinyurl.com/savewalkonwilshire
  • Voice your support on public forums including Reddit and keep it positive:
